Holiday in Barbiano at the Planatscherhof

In the seasons
Spring wellness days

When in the spring the buds sprout and the fruit trees bloom, we are witnessing the awakening of nature and with it the apple blossom. One or the other summer day blends into the first days of spring. The balmy days invite you to bike trips, for example on the cycling paths to Chiusa or Bolzano. For those who prefer uphill mountain biking, our highlands are just the right choice.

There are pristine routes, while in the hiking area Plose there are easy and difficult trails for mountain bikers. Have you ever explored the mountains on an e-bike? Rent a bike on Mount Plose in Brixen/St. Andrä and enjoy the view over the unique landscape of the Dolomites during a leisurely ride.

Or take your backpack to go hiking, maybe along the “Chestnut Path”, to the Three Churches or the Castle Trostburg. The natural monument Barbiano Waterfall is worth a visit – it is particularly impressive during the mountain snowmelt in April/May. Do you dare to cross the Barbian panorama bridge? Then off you go to Saubach!

An excursion to Mount Ritten is also unforgettable. Simply drive to Klobenstein. Continue with the Ritten Narrow-gauge Railway to Oberbozen and from there with the gondola lift to Bozen. Sounds good? Then let’s go. Do you prefer plum blossoms, aromatic herbs, and spring hikes? Ask us about the newest offers or take a look for yourself on the website of the holiday region Barbian.

Summer dream
Summer holidays in high alpine scenery
in Barbiano/South Tyrol

With an impressive alpine panorama, the community of Barbiano in South Tyrol welcomes you to Val d’Isarco for a relaxing holiday on the edge of the Dolomites. The striking landmark of the village can be seen from afar. The leaning tower of Barbiano was built in Romanesque architecture and has a clearly visible inclination angle. The community area extends from the valley to the summit of Corno del Renon. The local mountain towers above the village with its 2,260 meters like a mighty guardian. Excellent marked hiking trails lead into the high alpine regions around Barbiano/South Tyrol. A magnificent attraction is the waterfalls in the area of the village. The River Ganderbach crashes thunderously over several levels into the deep. The highest waterfall is the lower level with a breathtaking height of 85 meters

Hiking
in natural surroundings

In the alpine areas, the Dolomites, and the alpine pastures of Barbian, Villanders, Feldthurns, Latzfons, Villnöss and Seis as well as the Rittner Horn are the most popular destinations for hikers and nature lovers.

The 2,260-meter Rittner Horn is located in the Sarntal Alps and towers over Mount Ritten. At the viewpoints, you will enjoy a particularly wide view, when the weather is right. It extends all the way to the Großglockner Peak in Austria. From the Dolomites to the Ortler Alps, the unique panoramic view is the crowning glory of every hike.

The so-called “Keschtn Path” starts in Varna and via Barbiano/South Tyrol leads all the way to Bolzano. “Keschtn” are edible chestnuts, which the place is known. During a Val d’Isarco Törggelen evening in a traditional tavern, the local specialties will taste even better. The Villandro Alp, Alpe di Siusi, Val Gardena and the Nature Park Puez-Geisler are beautiful hiking areas in a radius of 10-20 kilometres.

Water fun and cultural experiences
during summer holidays in Barbiano/South Tyrol

Kulturerlebnisse im Sommerurlaub in Barbian/Südtirol

During your summer holiday in Barbiano/South Tyrol no day will be the same. At the Lake of Fiè, the Caldaro Lake and the lakes of Monticolo you will find crystal clear bathing waters in South Tyrol. Old buildings like the Castel Trostburg, the Monastery of Sabiona and the Three Churches will take you to a bygone era. The historic city centres of Bressanone and Brunico invite you to a stroll, while the Mediterranean charm of the botanical garden of Castle Trauttmansdorff welcomes you to the spa town of Merano. Holiday fun for the entire family is guaranteed in the Aquarena in Bressanone. In the South Tyrolean capital – Bolzano – the Archaeological Museum invites you to a visit. Here you can admire the glacier mummy “Ötzi”, and then take a stroll through the winding streets of the medieval city centre. Exciting tours will take you into the silver mine in Villandro and Mineral Museum in Tiso.

Autumn lights
Törggelen in Val d’Isarco in autumn

The excursions will lead you through a colourful autumn mountain landscape. The leaves on the trees glow in all shades of red, yellow and orange. A fascinating contrast to these colours games of nature is the dark green of the pine forests and the bright blue of the autumn sky.

Don’t forget to take a break at a Törggelen Tavern. The Eisacktal valley is popular for its particularly rustic Törggelen Parlors: authentic, truly cozy, and really South Tyrolean. South Tyrolean food tastes particularly good in these wine taverns, where the farmer and his wife are often still behind the counter and the homemade delicacies are fresh from the garden and home-grown. Barley soup, ravioli, ribs, a good drop of red or white wine, fresh elderberry juice and of course chestnuts are always part of a traditional Törggelen meal.

In this season you should try the delicious roasted chestnuts and be seduced by the intense taste of fresh apple juice.

Often you will also meet locals in a party mood because this tradition is not an artificial tourist spectacle but lived culture and pleasure at the same time. A visit to these taverns is often combined with a hike: fresh air, exercise and a hearty finish make the excursion perfect!
